Did you know that ...
What makes St Maarten a one of a kind
experience is its particular status as the
smallest territory in the world divided in 2
separated nations.
The legend Says...
That the border was designed after a simple run between a French and
a Dutch. The point where they met became the separation between the two
countries.
Today, St Martin St maarten is a blend of 90 000 people from 140 different
nationalities : A Global Village living in perfect harmony.
Peter Stuyvesant ...
Lost his leg, trying to attack the Amsterdam fort
in Great Bay. This 300 year old Fort was built by
the Dutch on the foundations of an old Spanish
military building ...
25 miles south west from St Maarten, rises Saba.
This volcanic rock of 5 square miles shelters
1150 nature lovers living here out of time.
The 'unspoiled queen' is so virgin that film makers
used its wildness as a backdrop for the First
King Kong movie.
Remember ...
St Maarten has 2 bridges which rises to let the boats enter the lagoon.
In Sandy ground, the bridge rises at 8:15 am, 2.30pm and 5:30 pm.
In Simpson Bay, at 6.30 am, 11.30 am and 5.30 pm.
Please don’t get mad if the traffic is jammed, remember you’re here to relax.
Stop your engine, get out of your car and admire the numerous sailboats
entering the lagoon to moor.
Marigot is the French Capital ...
Keep in mind that the French are doing the
Siesta from 1 to 3 in the afternoon, so while
town is asleep, take a moment to walk along the
waterfront until the marina fort Louis and admire
the sailboats.
Every morning in Marigot, the Market opens on
the waterfront around the pavilion for local
handcraft.
On the waters edge, The Local Food Market
opens only on Wednesdays and Saturday
mornings. Local anglers offer numerous fresh fish
to enjoy along with spices and exotic fruits from
the surrounding islands.
Nothing grows in St Maarten as its
extremely dry …. Lucky us!
We have the same weather all year long, 85 to 90
degrees of tropical sunshine.
